Empathy
At CLU, we believe that every leader, if they are to be effective, must have empathy. Merriam-Webster (2016) defines empathy as: “The action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner.”
Beyond Bias
A certificate in unconscious bias is currently being developed at CLU. The purpose of this certificate will be to train organizations and to expose people to, and make them aware of, their unconscious biases—while providing tools to adjust automatic patterns of thinking, and ultimately eliminate discriminatory behaviors.
