About this Course

The Beyond Bias certificate provides skills and knowledge to understand and address implicit bias in our everyday lives. Implicit biases are automatic patterns of thinking, which can lead to discriminatory behaviors.

Why move Beyond Bias? While we all participate in implicit bias, we are capable of identifying and transforming biases to build more inclusive communities and organizations.

Become a Champion for Change: Implicit bias is not something we can eradicate, but we can become champions for change by becoming more aware of our own biases that pervade our character and identity and learn how to effectively transform such obstacles into constructive opportunities to learn more about ourselves and others.

Throughout the certificate, learners will engage in direct learning through videos and articles, be challenged to reflect on your understanding, and engage in critical exploration activities. While nothing will be submitted for a grade and there are no minimum score requirements, you will move through each module in a specific pattern, requiring you to access all items to move forward, while you can revisit any content item as many times as you wish.

Beyond Bias is a new 6-week certificate offered at Claremont Lincoln University. If you want to build strong, inclusive relationships, then addressing bias is an essential ingredient.
Moving beyond bias requires making connections to people and ideas in order to transform our learned stereotypes and assumptions. CLU has designed a certificate to introduce you to the issue of implicit bias, how to identify when and to whom it is happening, and learn strategies to intervene or transform bias. Each week, you will learn about implicit bias through engaging videos, informative articles, discussion forums, and essay writing. At the conclusion of the course you will have the tools and knowledge to be an advocate for transforming bias in your life and community!
Claremont Lincoln University courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of professional adult learners. Our courses are 100% online which allow you flexibility in completing the weekly material on your own time. The courses are taught by subject matter experts who have long standing success in their respective fields. These factors combine to offer you a certificate which will help meet your professional goals and increase your awareness of unconscious bias.
  • Stand out from the crowd: having a certificate in something specialized like unconscious bias not only enhances your education, but it allows you to stand out more from the competition and make you more appealing to employers.
  • Continue to learn: continuing education demonstrates that you have a growth mindset—a willingness to improve, a readiness to learn something new, and a desire to seek knowledge.
  • New career? New ideas: our certificate programs may introduce you to new career fields and new ideas to explore your career interests.
  • Busy but productive: certificates are a great option for the “learner on the go.” With a few steps and a short about of time, certificates allows you to balance work, family obligations, and gain a desired skillset without taking on a full degree program.
Whether you’re a leader working on diversity and inclusion issues at your company, or just curious about inequities in the workplace and our society at large, the Beyond Bias certificate was designed for individuals truly wanting an inclusive workplace and society. This certificate is the first step in making a dent in the problem and raising awareness about unconscious bias.
  • As a result of completing this certificate, learners will be able to:
    1. Evaluate dialogue practices designed to engage difficult, often divisive issues that arise because of our biases and prejudices.
    2. Identify how bias limits the American promise of equality of opportunity and imperils democratic life.
    3. Develop ethical and practical frameworks and tools for addressing bias in themselves and their communities.
    4. Employ strategies to correct personal unconscious biases in daily interactions.
    5. Analyze tactics intended to reduce implicit bias at interpersonal, organizational and institutional levels.
